It wouldn't be a strong odor like something that was soaked, but it could be enough that you get the scent of it and can't figure out exactly where it is coming from.

You need to flip regularly, using the seed money over and over, and spending the profits (only) on your cash flow properties.As much as it might seem crazy, I would sell your CF properties for the profit and keep flipping until you can buy rentals with your profits.

Soak up as much as you can about the field you are choosing to learn and only focus on that one thing, also find some people that actually wholesale either around you or on BP and pick their brain and if you get lucky someone to partner with to show you the ropes.
