Active investors absolutely have ability for higher returns, but at some point it does impact your primary job earning power. 

You could probably afford $20,000 without much impact on your budget.

I've been very slowly investing over the last 5 years, and I cannot tell you how much of an impact this book had on me when I read it last September.
