Hi BP community,My wife and I are moving to Rhode Island for fellowship and decided to start a bit earlier than planned on our REI journey and house hack.

In terms of financing, does the university pay you monthly as fellowship award?

When I was in Berkeley CA as a graduate engineering student on a $18000/year fellowship stipend, I was asked to prepay 6 months by the apartment’s electronic system (probably yardi) with a 750+ credit score because I had limited income and didn’t want my mom to cosign.

I haven't started the road officially yet, working on getting finances straight and hoping to Capitalize on the pullback in real estate with inflation, with the plan to purchase around April to have any renovations done and open for potential June move ins coinciding with the change of internships and fellowships around the hospital. 

the idea is to turn it in to a single family home and turn the fellowship hall in to a duplex.  

And I'm currently in med school to become an Orthopedic Surgeon with a fellowship in Sports Medicine.IF I had found REI sooner, I NEVER WOULD HAVE GONE TO MED SCHOOL or gone after that pre-professional degree in physics.

By the time you end residency and possibly pursue fellowship, you'll have a nice bit of equity built in.

In another millennium, I finished college, and went to graduate school on a full fellowship to an Ivy League school.

This was 1999, and I was living on a grad student's fellowship stipend of $12K a year.

Expected level of finishes...and the list go on...If there are many graduate students you might be able to get the house rented also mid year as they tend to move more and are more independent (going to fellowship in mid year...returning from research abroad etc).Are you looking at places which need rehab?
