I would look at your degree/career path and see what you expect to make in 10 years, then double that number and make 1/12 of that your monthly target. 

I am very excited to make my introduction on BP as I have been lurking for a few months now, along with reading everything I can and listening to the podcasts.My situation is somewhat out of the norm as I am looking to begin my investing career not here in Iowa but actually in San Diego, closer to where my family is.  

My wife and i are actually discussing moving to the whitmore lake area. i am still in the education phase of my investing career, but looking to move forward shortly. 

I probably have to make a career decision Tuesday as I'm going to interviewed over the phone for a position in Miramar (NBC Universal Media) and I will continue to operate on a modest income <80,000 income.
