Ask around with other investors and "investor friendly" real estate agents for references and then have a chat with each inspector to see exactly what s/he covers in the thorough building inspection.Check with the zoning and heritage bi-laws to see what restrictive covenants will govern how you can renovate and maintain the house.

You will definitely want a RE-focused CPA to chat with about the way you can tie those strategies together to offset your regular income, or high-income years (i.e. if you sell stocks for a big profit).You can always use your tax-deferred vehicles to invest as well: IRA/401k.
