To the best of my knowledge, non-citizens are no longer allowed to purchase undeveloped freehold land outside of resort developments.

I started in real estate during college with a low money down FHA home, I rented bedrooms out to my friends, and lived rent free Junior and Senior year.

However, you will still need to pay any senior liens, past due property taxes being the obvious one.

We just opened our LLC. 1 of us is a US citizen, while the other 2 are international (H1B visa and OPT).

As a dual Canadian/American citizen I am open to buying in either country (for my first property) and then internationally. 

, senior living (independent and assisted, very much missed in downtown lisbon), hostels, etc...there are cities in the Lisbon metro area booming, where you still can find very cheap assets and the cape rate in alternative uses rises to 15%, where I think it will be in the coming 5 years...Talking of ROI in rentals, has to be subject to an exploration fix period, the knowledge of the loan rate, etc...
