The easiest way for you to start is using your VA and find a duplex up to a fourplex and jump in. 

We bought our first duplex in October, 2017 and I can say without a doubt, it was all due to Bigger Pockets and these forums. 

Most i have walled away from, but I have 4 and working on one now that looks promising.

Take a look at duplexes in the area, is this property selling around the same price or way above the market averages? 

I wish I had heard of househacking before we bought our house :( Now that we know about it, we're trying to find ways on how we can purchase a duplex to househack and rent out our current home. 

The walls are all open and electrical wiring/outlets are installed.

We have 19 accuired 19 doors using the BRRRR method mostly. 4 duplexes and the rest are SFH's.
