This is the difference between what municipalities will discern as tolerable businesses and those with "publc safety issues"

Buyers are more discerning and are more likely to look at credentials and certifications.

Your now trying to resell and title company won't insure because of what you described. those are buyer beware sales.. they simply give you  a deed its up to you up front to discern  if there is any problems with title.  

Some of the suppliers we have a relationship with in Europe, like Porcelanosa, make really high end stuff.I guess the idea of additional housing behind ADUs would imply that the most discerning customers wouldn't have much interest in them but we thought they would still be interested in them if the workmanship and finish is up to their standards, as guest houses or lake cabins or similar.
