Hello, My sister has major school loan debt  and is still in debt over 10 years later.

My sister and I bought a duplex for $190K in January, but it is our owner-occupied and she actually lives in one unit and we rent the other unit out.I was SURE we can find sub $50K properties but she is very hesitant.

Anyway there is 2 heirs, my sister and myself. 

My sister is dealing with the same thing right now.

They certainly are not making tropical islands any more but PR was in trouble before Maria and is probably in more trouble now (remember before Maria the talk was whether PR would default and go bankrupt and need conservatorship).I would say if you are set on an Airbnb in Rincon, the next step would be to take advantage of the slow market and book your own Airbnb to Rincon and spend some time there to assess.
