You may want to have someone with access to the MLS pull comps and get you an actual somwhat reliable value estimate than make critical investment decisions based on what zillow says.

There are some investors who apparently are willing to pay the fines though because the signs are a good lead source on a cost per lead basis, even with the fines.

They are an excellent source of information.

Hello everyone,      Im just starting to get my feet wet with analyzing MFP's and was wondering if there are any sources of sample scenarios, or transactions, that can be used to get the basic understanding of how to read the numbers and what works and what doesn't work. 

Craigslist has also been a good source of quality leads for me.

I've heard that absentee owners are the way to go, so do you still suggest door knocking as my primary initial source?

Your strategy might depend on how you are sourcing your deals as well too.
