Were there any lease violations, noise complaints, etc?

You are correct @Julie McCoy, but just the "noise" it creates is an erosion of the market, no matter how small. 

We received a text from the tenant saying that she would be leaving the unit and going back home to New York from the unbearable noise during the day.

The downstairs tenant always complains about excessive noise from the upper unit.

You don't want your tenants keeping 5,000 crickets in a tub--even if they don't knock it over, there are odor and noise issues. 

@Evan Jackson I don't have a ton of experience in this area, but I will say I have heard an iron clad noise complaint section in your lease is a good idea.

In all circumstances, complaints that the occupants of the short-term rental has created unreasonable or unlawful noise or disturbances in violation of Chapter 95 of the Municipal Code or the provisions of this chapter or is engaging in disorderly conduct, requires an in-person response by the local contact person.I do agree that Indio is a saturated STR market however you just need to make sure to do your "due diligence". 

There is increased parking on the street and increased noise.

Some completly discouragne short term rentals, others require the payment of hotel/motel tax and financial penalties for violations (noise, and occupanc, etc.).
