And that's not to say that I don't believe you, but it is to say that the scenario you're citing is A) particularly to residential real estate, and B) mostly enabled by the expansionary monetary regime we've been under for a half century. 

While a college degree should always open some doors for you.2)  Aside from a degree, college enables you to fine-tune your communication skills (writing, grammar, etc.) - which will be important for the rest of your life regardless of your career.  

Unfortunately, they generally have not set up the tools needed to extract the information (or they don't provide public access to them) needed.

Having a dishwasher should enable you to charge more rent and/or rent a place faster.
