On the first occasion that the same problem occurred, he was still getting SOME promotional emails from BP, but none relating to his followed threads, which leads him to believe that the problem is:- the "Re-verification" email that needs to be received is originating from the SAME email source that has been blocked in the first place (which could be a specific email server process that created the glitch).

Do you think direct mailing a hand written letter would be the best approach or getting in touch with an agent that specializes in this?

When you buy out of area it is extremely hard to know what you are getting as just a few blocks can make a huge difference in neighborhood. 

There were a few years of pain, but then over a period of 3-4 months, I started getting certified letters in the mail requesting I refinance those houses under the HARP program.

You need to be driving neighborhoods and sending out letters to pre-forclosure, probate, and absentee owners.  

I just picked up a 5-plex three blocks away from campus and wondering if zillow rent, craigslist, or maybe campus flyer would be best.
