We're thinking of going with decent carpet tiles for a number of reasons: no hidden costs, no installation costs, if they get destroyed we don't have to replace the whole carpet, and they're a 'green' product (which is a big deal in our market). 

I've been on many jobs with it installed.

While these units get great reviews on Best Buy, and overall the cost to install them will be less, they do have some perceived short comings.

We lucked out with a new HVAC system and new water heater installed just before purchase.

I wonder what they payback time would be for installing and maintaining motion detectors versus the pennies in energy keeping the lights on for 10 hours.

No matter what, I think I would install another bathroom (1/2 or full), windows, flooring, lighting etc... and/or possibly replace the sold garage door with a glass one. 

I try to paint them the same color and install the same type of appliances.

This time it is the hot water heater that is not yet installed.

They do add another component to your home that would need maintenance and eventually replaced just like any appliance or hvac unit but if installed correctly they shouldn't be problematic. 

Whenever it has rained, and it has rained extensively here in PA/NJ, the original backflow valve installed was failing.I had my plumber who I trust install a new backflow valve; they removed all the old pipe, brought in new PVC and checkvalve (installed right over the sump pump by the edge of the basement).
