Happy to provide some color to my previous text.

The house is located in blue collar neighborhood, the properties around our house have new (good looking) siding, but ours definitely in a bad shape, has dark color, was painted by previous owners.

I kept waiting for the big issue to turn up, but lo and behold, it passed the inspection with flying colors and there hasn't been a single maintenance issue.

We gritted through, took our lumps and rose again. 

We are looking for resources and/or inspiration for color scheme, hardware / fixtures ideas, restoration tips, and mainly to connect with some of you that have done this kind of a project before.Cheers!
