I thought it must be the neighbors or street it's on since other properties in same area are flying off the shelve.  

No tiles to crack, no grout to clean and most important, no leaks on seams.In the kitchen I would consider going with a cool, modern look and use metal shelves with little to no doors.

No uppers along long wall, but a couple of long open shelves, to keep narrow space feeling more open.  

I can tell you that I've been looking for a triplex or fourplex for the past several months in town and things are flying off the shelves that are even mildly descent deals.
