We've recently closed on a SFH in Royal Oak, MI that we intend to keep as a buy and hold. 

We have custom oak cabinets and the window/door trim is wood stained a medium brown, so we don't want to overpower the area with a wood grain floor.

I once lived in a neighborhood where an elderly lady sold chips, candy and soda to the kids from her very messy garage. 

If you go with vinyl plank I don't think it will hold up for 25 years but if you can install it right over the existing tile it will be a whole lot easier than chipping up the old tile.

As long as you're not chipping away at it and then breathing that in or eating the chips you're fine.

STRs in urban centers, rural getaways, or blue chip vacation markets?

It's probably a week or two of full time work but on a DIY basis you could chip away at it.
