Is there anything legally I can do as the customer/should do for this blatant disregard for workplace policies and respect toward personal property?

Their blatant and irresponsible error is ruining your deal!  

Your last statement “Regardless of how a landlord chooses to collect rent, they could experience the same thing that happened to you” is blatantly false (but I can see why you would want people to believe that). 

The blatant red-lining from insurance companies is insane and a HUGE reason why people don't change their residency to Detroit even when they move here.

He had never helped anyone buy or sell a house ever.I still see it too, people stating things about my market that are just blatantly false...because they clearly are not in the market every day and have no idea what's going on.Lots of keyboard cowboys with no or almost no actual real estate experience here.

Think this varies a lot based on your tenant profile -- if you've got non-English speaking or older or tech-phobic tenants, little things can really get in the way.I'm surprised so few have mobile payment options -- it seems like a blatantly obvious feature. 

Having ALL you criteria blatantly listed up front and even stated again when they inquire, is the first screen for tire kickers....if you dont meet these, then dont bother.... if they keep past that and you get 80 inquires, your demand is crazy and your price needs to go up. 

I cant fix people making dumb decisions Yes the number is on the curb but it also has a blatant handicap sign.

If you decide to use an agent/broker, ensure they have experience in the City and can guide you toward the best spots (without blatantly red-lining of course!)
