Prohibiting exterior cameras also curtails abuse when a tenant's cameras could be faced towards another tenant's window or private entry door.Good advice above about not getting involved, but perhaps revisit your lease wording moving forward so you can just say "that's against the lease" to end the discussion and not get drawn in in the future.FWIW, I would have left the inheritied tenants month-to-month contracts for a while until got the lay of the land, had some history with them and got to know them better.

Here's the link to Chicago's ADU rules that Jon referenced so you don't have to hunt. https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/doh/provdrs/homeowners...https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/additional-dwelling-un...I just would hightlight a big detail of the ordinance if you sought to make it legal under the ordinance is that it prohibits Airbnb/short-term rentals in the unit and the City will hit you here since you would be required to register the AirBnB with the City for that separately.

You'd have the cost of fully furnishing the unit, but a 2/2.5 is actually a very attractive unit configuration for traveling medical professionals and digital nomads so long as it isn't prohibited if you're in an HOA.

However don't do this without the consent of the landlord/ owner of the property and definitely do not do it where airbnb is prohibited, because the fines for violating the law can often be placed on the property.

Ask all the people who bought STR only to have cities come back in and prohibit STR around the world.I have never purchased property in Mexico, but I have considered it many times, and still considering it.
