not much, but we update them like it's a flip. that's our downfall and a sore subject. we hope it pays off with longer term tenants and better care of the properties.i used to do the work myself and tackle just about anything, even with a full time job. but with 2 kids that need my attention, i have been trying (successfully) to give the work away. thanks for the encouragement, everyone!

My initial reaction is that this is not something for a newbie to tackle - you might want to start out with something a little more straight forward.

They can be daunting, it doesn’t make sense for most people to tackle these, especially if they have a full-time career for are enjoying retirement.One example is debt.

I am not sure how does adding up additional suites to the single-family home works- Do I need to get permissions from the municipal corporation, is there any particular zoning the house should be in to tackle that, What kind of approximate costs are involved in building that since I am not sure if banks would give money for the renovation as well.

As a full time home inspector, I am too busy to tackle a big project.
