Brian,Condolences or congratulations on the divorce, which ever applies.I myself just went through the same situation, mine was in MN so some info may not transfer.You "could" get going safely, but if you do no preparation and just go get properties and all that the ex has full legal right to equitable split of all that stuff as well.
