I don't think it is a bad idea to find work in real estate somehow as it will allow you to be comfortable with being around it in general, such as a property management company.

Lending terms will be important here.I'd say the biggest challenge thus far is making sure I feel comfortable managing this remotely, as it's located about ~150 miles east of Dallas. 

If I don't feel comfortable I also give folks a chance to get a cosigners.

That said it is possible that you need to evaluate your stays and decide if it is worth taking shorter stays or sticking to some longer stays to reduce your time commitment and maximize the revenue for time invested.
