Before refinancing I painted the 70s wood paneling and replaced flooring.

At this point I'd paint that white, though that may have been a good candidate for replacement with a six-panel door during rehab.

This is close to what we've discussed, @J Scott - a panel show would be lovely IMO.  

Average quote in the are is about $1500 to install a spa panel.

Inner surface - drywall, KP board, Barker board, lath-n-plaster, panelling, tongue-n-groove boards, some combination?

Panel upgraded or a series of small panels cobbled together?

There is a big list of other items including cleaning the curtains they balled up & stuck in a dusty corner, repairing a panel wall where he glued about 50 metal hat hooks for his ballcaps, ripped window shades, really dirty carpet (2 dogs, 2 toddlers).
