The northland is a big area, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Liberty, Claycomo, near the airport, etc. are all quite different from each other.

The gentrifying is still going on and so I'd recommend that you look at neighborhoods adjacent or in walking distance to the ones you like, but in your price range, that's going to be hard still.
