If you are a surviving spouse of a farmer, you may also be treated as materially participating in the farm, if the real property used for farming meets the estate tax rules for special valuation of farm property passed from a qualifying decedent and the surviving spouse actively manages the farm.

Things happen during their lifetime, a mortgage, a 2nd, a tax lien, they have kds, bails problem child out of jail (bailbond), someone gets sick, delinquent mortgage then default, someone dies, the surviving spouse dies, kid(s) want their inheritnce(house), bills left behind need to be paid, etc.This is how people live and how real estate is part of their lives.

This can be true; but, I've seen the value both rise and diminish, depending on the scale of the proposed project.If you decide to sell, keep in mind that the inquiring agent will undoubtedly expect you to pay the commissions, thus affecting your overall cash to find a larger abode.As an added note: My daughters survived a small house; and, the wife and I are quite comfortable now and don't need to "downsize."
