If you really have to get down to it, do an inspection and focus on the food on the floor and countertops and tell them  its not your problem until they learn to clean up after themselves.

Yeah if you cut the power as mentioned they do the candles and wax thing all over the place not to mention it could start a fire and burn your place down.The carpet will need replacing as well as the burnt counter tops if you have the laminate stuff.

Now, I dont install new dishwashers or upgrade to granite countertops, but for what I call the The Coziness Factor, when I newly renovate a property I spend extra on - nice paint on the walls, tile/laminate, nice light fixtures (cheap), and new appliances.
