Hey brother welcome to BP and sorry to hear about your injury but am glad you made it stateside safe.I'm still relatively new but from what I do know the best thing right now would be for you to utilize your VA loan to get into your next house (preferably multiplex up to a 4 unit) then house hack that while you figure out what your market is and some specifics to reach your goal (multi family, single family, etc)Until then just keep reading and participating in the forums here on bigger pockets.

Others thing they do in Chicago is once they do get one finished and they need hud inspection ( need all things done) they will then put a house sitter in the house.I suspect in your neck of the woods you might have WT tweakers running around but nothing is like the mid west and inner big cities out there in the way of this petty crime.

That is not my concern because I believe that if a tenant is injured on my property and that injury is a result of my actions or negligence an good attorney will find a way to go after me and not just the business entity.
