The right to redeem is inherent in an installment contract not a rental contract.Foreclosing an equitable interest can take on a different form in legalese but is fundamentally the same idea as foreclosing legal interests.

Hi Jerome,Fundamentally 2-4 unit multis are generally financed in much the same way as a primary residence single family, i.e. the borrower is qualified based on income, credit rating, debt ratio etc.
