I told my team not to try too hard, but rather to relax and focus on learning about the other attendees.  

Perhaps a good place to start to network and learn more about the numbers in your market would be to attend local meetups and real estate investor associations where most attendees will gladly answer your questions.

So could I say something like "Attendees of (college name here) only" without violating fair housing laws?
