The argument most unlicensed brokers use is that they are selling a contract.

I have been reading that becoming an unlicensed RE assistant allows you to use the agents MLS.

You will have to disclose your license on marketing, but I've never viewed that as a downside that couldn't be turned into a benefit:  if I were licensed, I would use that as a tool to discuss why a client should work with me rather than an "unknown and unlicensed" wholesaler.

Attaining your license will grant you credibility and put you in preference over other free-lance/unlicensed investors.

Don't get caught up in the unlicensed brokering garbage.

What wholesaling is, is essentially being an unlicensed real estate agent with a fraction of the tools in your toolbelt that a licensed real estate agent has in theirs. 

The state is closing the loopholes that unlicensed brokers use to skirt the laws.

Sometimes you can get a 'job' as an unlicensed assistant and get MLS access.

As to FL statute 475.43 it appears the state is trying to close the loophole that most unlicensed brokers use.
