It's very hard for me to find sympathy for them...The same goes for the hotels that are complaining.The future is more democratized, decentralized economy of which Airbnb will play an important part.

I provide them with as safe an environment as can be expected with working door locks, window locks, etc. but they are responsible for their own personal property insurance.It's ok to feel sympathy for your tenants but don't let that get in the way of making smart business decisions.

I would say it is kind of in a gray area right now, but if you used that smoking clause to force cessation by the tenant and had to eventually evict because of it, you may find sympathy in a court should it come to that; most businesses that I know of ban e-smoking inside just like regular cigarettes.
