I'm not sure how complex you want to make your website, but if you just want to make just a typical website for text and pics, I would recommend setting up a WordPress blog.

I'm thinking of just building one with WordPress if I can attach my own domain for free.  

If it's a simple website, do it yourself.We use WordPress and then Divi Builder app, which makes designing and building your site super easy! 

I use Namecheap to buy the URL and then add a year of hosting ( WordPress ).

If you are just trying to make your RT site more informative, anyone on elance.com can help you set up the site for cheap and its usually a wordpress based site wtih widgets made by 3rd parties.
