I live in Virginia in the Hampton roads area but have went under contract on a 6/2 2700 sq ft house in Elizabeth City, NC. 

@Emillio Henry I use Speed Queen commercial machines and they are very reliable.

There are Maytag, Amana, Whirlpool type home-use washer/ dryers (~$1400 for both), then there is the Speed Queen (~ $2600 for both).

I've also been generally unimpressed with the attorney I hired to write my lease, there were so many things I had to add in myself and I still found a bunch of things in @Elizabeth Colegrove's book that I'm hitting myself in the head for now.
