Lewis, I have to disagree that you have to go to tourist destinations for STR.

I was interested in buying a property in an area such as Miami or Las Vegas (due to the low cost of homes & its desirability as a tourist destination), renovating it and renting it on Airbnb.

I was just on BP searching for investors in Ireland, I'm interested in finding people who are investing there since my long term goal is to move back to Europe and that's one of my possible destinations.  

I figure I can live in one, long term rent out two, and furnish the 4th nicely for a Short Term rental since Vegas is such a tourist destination.

Maybe you should block out certain hours in a day, turn off the phone and focus on what will get you to your destination.
