Hi All,New landlord in Norther New Jersey, have a question about tennant screening for any folks doing buisiness locally.From my past experience in New York I was under the impression that asking for the following things is standard practice:--3 month most recent bank statements--3 months most recent pay stubs--Last year's W2--Last year's Income Tax ReturnIm am currently hearing that due to privacy concerns these items are not requrested in my area and they would  chase away potental tenants becuase no one else is asking for this information.

If you think $5,000 to fix an apartment is bad, try $150,000 for a lawyer, and then you still might lose because you were so intransigent that the "broke *** tenant" you bullied decided to make a federal case out of it.Also be careful with tenant privacy.

It is also possible the municipalities are not providing access, either for reasons of privacy, reasons of profit, or reasons of being late to the party and behind with the times...hmm...Search: land records, GIS, mapping, property records, real estate, real property - who knows how the municipality has organized and named their records.I will leave you to it and good luck!

If someone is so "disabled" they can't live in the privacy of their own home without the presence of a dog or cat, that indicates they are in need of regular, on-going treatment.
