When housing prices started running up, a lot of those STRs were purchased by people to live in as owner-occupants; I think I have the last STR on my street in my community, or at least I don't see any other houses being advertised on VRBO or AirBnB on my street, and when I walk up and down the street it is pretty obvious that most of those houses are now owner-occupied.
