I personally would not permit an applicant without a SSN since this would not enable us to run a background check etc.

@Nancy Bachety, Nicholas is correct, if your rentals are short term and the income is treated as active - you will be eligible for a Solo 401k, which will enable you to shelter up to $61,000 of your income per year (depending on your age and net business income).
