All you need is a 7' or higher ceiling.  

We will have 22' ceilings inside.

In relationship to the house prices that are very high(west coast, NE, southwest FL) the upper limit has no ceiling so the floor is going to be appropriately higher anywhere else. 

Very few sellers will allow you to create a hole in their properties ceiling to investigate due to the liability involved.

@Ryscha Williams you will need any wall or ceiling that are shared to be at least 1-hour fire rated.

And so I had it done last month (my electrician wanted me to be in town while the work was done - which was a good idea due to potential ceiling troubleshooting implications) - it went as well as it could have gone as there was enough space in the ceiling to run the duct-work/piping (whatever the proper term is) out to the north side of the property without major headaches. 

It will ruin your floors or if it’s an upstairs unit go through and ruin ceilings in the downstairs unit.

I plan on doing a neutral paint color like beige on all the walls, white trim & ceilings, and LVT everywhere on the main floor (except the living room).
