More detailed response: my belief is that a) yes, you can write off 100% of the associated costs for the back house, and b) you can write off an appropriate percentage of things in the main house (which might get complicated - it's 2/3 of the house, but the space probably won't be rented all the time, and you can probably only deduct things when they're rented, etc.)

Also, this is probably against popular traditional beliefs, but when two high-income earners get legally married, they automatically start paying more in taxes....simply for having that legally married status.http://marriagetaxcalculator.com/
