In Bethlehem, where I live, we had a casino built in recent years (Sands), there are universities close by (Lehigh, Lafayette, Muhlenburg), good hospitals, and job growth as well.

I have done some checking and the county treasurer told me that there is a 3 yr redemption period so you would have to pay the taxes for the 3 yrs and if they don't get redeemed you can proceed further.

The house was bought with a flippable intention in the long run as far as school district, neighborhood, and minor rehab.I want to invest in my local market which is the Boston and surrounding suburbs which is a high and attractive market which still has room growth due to increase in job demand from next new casinos, hotels, GE, and Amazon.

I cannot afford a $100,000 down payment (if I don't use FHA), but it sounds like house hacking isn't going to work out very well in this market unless I come across a treasure chest of a deal.
