Some photographers will Photoshop fire into a fire place etc. but otherwise you can use your basic editing tools on your phone to "brighten" the place up as it were.

That being said, I always put them through my entire process, credit/background check through my program (don't trust others, too easy to fake with photoshop etc), 3 x rent, license, and than my 18 page lease .

My first headshot was taken by a friend and another friend made it look incredible in photoshop = $0 cost.Then about 2 years ago I paid $300 for professional photography and got 3 really good images out of that photoshoot.
