Are Professional Headshots Worth It?

I was going through some of the profiles on here and noticed that quite a few people have some type of professional headshot of themselves done, so it got me thinking.

1. In your opinion, Is it worth it?
2. Do you use a professional headshot for social media? (facebook, etc)
3. If you did get pictures taken, how much did it cost you?

Thanks for the help!

@Cody Gentry, I will chime in and say that for the purposes of this site, especially in the beginning, you don't need a professional headshot. A good headshot, yes. An image that conveys what you look like, absolutely. Your image is fine right now.

Should you wish to change it, have a friend take a series of pictures of you against a plain background. I don't think you need to spend money on pictures for this site.

I do think the professional images you see are for other purposes originally, and then just reused on this site.

Like Russell Brazil, mine is from a wedding, and I really liked it.
