Your internet presence will make or break you  There are lots of great family memories to be made and you can get in the car and just go as your beach stuff is already in your locked owner's closet. 

So finding out what the repairs are and getting them fixed does not require your close presence. 

The police presence (both housing authority and metro PD) seems to be significantly higher in SW than in any of the other areas of the District with high concentrations of poverty-- even on non game days.

Otherwise, your best bet is probably to meet up in person with a copy of the lease and have her sign it in your presence. 

personally I am not sure I would want to buy apts where I need that much police presence 

Schedule your visit for a specific time with at least 24 hours notice, make it clear their presence is not required and that they cannot refuse entry.

@Nik Corbaxhi I can see that, especially because a lot of the other options for that level of comfort are gurus, or other shady characters who demand payment or a cut of the deal for their "benevolent presence"

Now when I hire a PM, you bet I look at their online ratings, but more than that, how they manage their online presence.

You may want to price out getting it professionally removed at some point though - especially if you plan on selling the building as you typically have to disclose the presence of asbestos.
