The kitchen has basic cabinets but it does have granite counters.

I need to get some quotes on granite counter tops.  

Do granite counters make a worth while investment or are renters there looking for cheap, safe and clean?

To put it in perspective, you are not going to put granite countertops in a $600 a month rental unit (maybe you will maybe you won't) because the cost doesn't justify the ROI.
