I think different people have a different perspective based on their culture some see it as terrifying while other just see it as a neighborhood they used to call home they are also able to relate to the people better because that's who they are familiar with.

The popular investment culture over sells the market as an arena for investment structures such as the IRA, 401ks, etc and it's peddled as conventional wisdom.

It's not due as much to our status on the world scene as it is due to our culture and geographic isolation.

There is good reasoning inherent in the American Indian cultural norm of respecting elders and knowing "the slower you speak, the more respect you show."
