It's funny how with real estate these people seem to think their behaviour is Okay.

I appreciate your letting us know about this man . perhaps you could have protected yourself better with a collateralised loan , but that is not the point . it does not excuse his corrupt behaviour and thank you for telling us. 

For a first property, one that you plan to live in, and with the added complication of the new family/new father-in-law interpersonal issues, I would still go with the inspection.

While there is plenty of blame to go around, that kind of visible and obnoxius behaviour ends up hurting every other landlord.I am not for rent control at all, but I do think we all should try to understand the ramifications of every action we take 

Financial IQ, interpersonal communication, sales are all great skills, but he downplays, at least to my memory, things like science, math, history ect, in favor of the money making "hard" skills.

It's not easy and we all struggle with the interpersonal stuff sometimes.

As part of all this behaviour, our bank called us a few days ago and told us that the tenant has cancelled their last rental check to us, which has resulted in our issuing a 3 day pay or leave notice to initiate the legal processes.
