Also on a huge house like that, to resell, everything needs to be high end, so you cant get the basic granite, you need to get super nice finishes, costing you even more. 

It needs about $10k in rehab to make this 3 bed 2 bath a nicely upgraded home with granite counters, stainless steal appliances, wood floors, new landscaping, etc.

I just stumbled upon a product called lazygranite It looks like a step up from using granite tiles for counter tops but a step down from slab counter tops.

I have done a little research, and it looks like a great area that will sustain upgrades like granite countertops and hardwood floors.  

For example The farmhouse country grids between the glass on Windows doesn't match the high end granite and fixtures.

Go to your local countertop or cabinet company and ask for remnants of marble/granite/Corian/etc.
