It's refreshing that you have a broader perspective than "milking" your properties.  

I will be milking my IRA acct, so if I distribute part of the selling price this year, and the balance in the next year, each distribution falls on a different tax return... 2015 and 2016.  

I did have a milk crate and a pillow that I would sit on when I used my computer as I looked for a job.. that I never found, but I don't think a milk crate qualifies as furniture when you're in your 30s.

Money Mustache take all of this to an illogical extreme and advocate people live on something like $20k/year for a family of 3 or 4.  

That would be like getting a Ferrari so you could occasionally head to the corner store for a gallon of milk.

Getting it sold is more important than milking every penny.

My wife and I are focusing on living as far below our means as we can stand (check out Mr Money Mustache for general idea) so we can sock some cash and get more long term holds as well.  

This all is really just a way for me to get to drink chocolate milk.
