Sounds like the home inspector might be at fault for saying “this is the best maintained Fourplex I’ve ever seen," and not noticing the incorrectly installed siding and missing the damp wall.

Treating them good is: nice Christmas bonuses, lunch on the boss for their birthdays or after they made you some good money on a hard job and give them a gift card to buy new Carhart winter clothes every fall.
