The good ones will say "no" because, frankly most won't want to bother; But if you're persistent and won't take "no" for an answer, they'll see you're serious and they'll have plenty of things for you to do.

Direct marketing is both a numbers game and a persistence game along with consistency.

Persistence" is a better word than "connections" on what it takes. 

Sealing off your attic and access to it might deter them, but it might not and they can be persistent.
